Storm damage at Floreat dog-beach

Quite significant erosion took place on 25 May and again on 5-6 June when winter storms produced a north-westerly set to the swell. This allowed strong waves to reach the beach whereas the beach is somewhat protected from the normal south-westerly swell pattern by Rottnest Island.  The fence along the front of the planted area near path 14 has been washed away completely, and the fence at the southern end of the path 16 area has also been washed away.  However, the ocean’s excavation didn’t penetrate far into the planted areas and has left a substantial cliff to deter visitors – see photo gallery below.
