We are holding our first Busy-Bee of the winter next Sunday, May 26, at 9 am at Track 16 to tend our restoration areas on the Floreat Dog-Beach. We will remove weeds particularly Sea Spurge, euphorbia paralias, which is an invasive weed. We will locate holes in the matting where previous plantings have failed to prepare the way for replanting. In a couple of places, we plan to do some fencing and matting and to make holes in the new matting ready for planting. Planting will take place on subsequent Sundays when we have had a bit more rain than we have had to date, so please expect to get notification that we think it is time to plant the 2000 hardy species we have ready to go when the weather breaks.
Track 16 is at the end of the slip-road heading north from Floreat Surf Lifesaving Club, approximately opposite the end of Bent Street in City Beach. The weather for Sunday looks to be fine. This Sunday’s work will be an important preliminary to the planting effort so I hope we get a good turn-out of volunteers – this is National Volunteers Week and your opportunity to contribute to the national effort!
